Frequently Asked Questions

We have listed the most important information. If your question is not there, you can also find a lot of information on the website. If your question is not answered, or if you want more information, you can contact us by calling or emailing.

Make an appointment

You are always welcome with us, but in the Netherlands the rule is that care is reimbursed when you have a referral from a general practitioner, youth doctor or medical specialist. This means that if you do not have a referral, we naturally want to help you, but there is a big chance that the health insurance will not reimburse the care and you will have to pay the bill yourself.

The GP usually refers you to us, but a youth doctor (from the Centre for Youth and Family, the consultation bureau, the school doctor) can also refer you directly to us.

That is unfortunate, but it can happen of course. The rule within healthcare is that you will receive an invoice in that case. In healthcare we call that a ‘no-show fee’. It means that we had reserved time for you, but we waited for nothing. Of course there may be something special going on, then you, your mother, father, or caregivers can always call to discuss.

If you are ill, please let us know as soon as possible. You can do this by calling us on the number at the top of the website. We will then make a new appointment immediately.

Try to reschedule the appointment as soon as possible, but no later than 24 hours in advance. If this has not happened, the rule is that we will send your father and mother, or caregivers an invoice, because we actually had to wait for you for nothing.

If you have been referred to us, we will contact you or your parent as soon as possible to schedule a first appointment. You or your parent can of course also call or email us. The details can be found on our website.

As soon as you have an appointment, we will create a personal portal. You will receive the login details for this by email. Then a questionnaire is ready. It is nice if you fill it in (possibly together with your father and/or mother). When you come to us, it is useful to bring a few things: an ID (yours) and if you are already using medication, please bring your medication (including a spacer if you have one)

General

You can find everything about your rights as a child in care here

We are required to keep everything we know about you confidential. But there are exceptions.

We are allowed to inform the doctor or nurse who referred you to us. Usually this is the family doctor, but sometimes also the youth doctor or a (child) doctor from a hospital.

Of course, we only share things that are important to provide you with the best possible treatment and guidance.

Even if you have been referred by your GP, we believe it is important that the people who work in youth health care know important information about your health.

This means that we always send all important information to your GP and to the youth doctor (until you are 18 years old).

We assume that you and your parents have no objection to this. If you do, would you please inform us verbally and in writing as soon as possible?

Air4ce Kids currently employs Mirella Poorter (physician and medical director), Sofie van der Reijden (physician and medical director), Angela van Rhijn (nurse specialist in training), Arjan Wittkampf (pulmonary nurse), David van Tijn (pediatrician), Femke Razenberg (pediatrician), Fleurtje Schornagel (youth doctor KNMG, in training to become a specialist doctor M+G) and Ans Uittenbogaard (medical secretary). You can read more about the team here.

In principle, all children with respiratory complaints are welcome in our center. If it turns out that there is something wrong with you that other doctors know more about, we will discuss with you and your parents or caregivers what is best for you.

The care of Air4ce Kids & Young Adults is reimbursed by the health insurer. Sometimes not everything is reimbursed (yet), but the part that your health insurer does not reimburse, we will pay for. So you do not have to pay anything yourself. If you are over 18, the mandatory deductible of your health insurer does apply, just like in a hospital.

We have a care contract with Zorg&Zekerheid. This means that we can submit the bill directly to them and the full amount will be reimbursed.

We have an agreement with a number of health insurers (VGZ, VGZBewuzt, IZA, UMC, Univé, Zekur.nl, IZZ, United Consumers, Aevita, Care4Life, ONVZ and VvAA) that we can submit the invoice directly to them.

If you are insured with a different health insurer than the one mentioned above, you or your parents will receive the bill first. You can then submit it to your health insurer (usually easily online). You then transfer the amount that you will be reimbursed to us, after you have received it yourself. This way you do not have to pay anything in advance.

Air4ce Kids is an independent center, but not a hospital. In principle, we provide care that we can plan, during the day and eventually also in the evening. This means that we currently have no possibilities to admit you. So we do not have beds in which you can sleep, like they do in hospitals.

Accessibility

There are sufficient (paid) parking spaces around the health centre and in the vicinity of the Alrijne hospital. More information can be found here.

Air4ce Kids can be found in the health center de Leidse Hout. It is near the Alrijne Hospital in Leiden. The address can be found on the website.
